Life and How to Live It

After all these years you've found us and we're still here, riding the nostalgia wave of retro chic...

The revelatory cartoon strip featured in ‘Sounds’ music paper from the 1980s

LIFE AND HOW TO LIVE IT - BACK FROM THE DEAD

The Sounds music paper may be dead and buried but Life and How to Live It (as the name defiantly suggests) lives on!

When they dig up the remains of this current civilization thousands of years in the future (or possibly in a couple of years’ time depending on which conspiracy theory you subscribe to), any archaeologist who comes across a sample of Life and How to Live It will still be able to identify with some of the stupid practices described as they’ll more than likely recognise it amongst his or her colleagues in the current era.

Life and How to Live It is about human nature, so while humans still exist, someone, somewhere, at any time in history will be able to have a chuckle over the insane things that humans get up to.

Check out the classics

These are the original cartoons that appeared in Sounds from 1982 to 1984. The cartoons were printed in black and white but over the years some of them have been coloured with the intention of turning them into greetings cards and other merch.

The Reckless Pen

Are a couple of misfits who met at Portsmouth film school in the 70s.

Our passion for irreverent comedy resulted in various joint projects from our own wannabe Derek and Clive recording session (performed while stone cold sober) through to video sketches

taking the piss out of abstract painting as an act of rebellion against the fanaticism of the art school’s dominant ideology.

Life and How to Live It materialized only after we’d both left college and tried to fit into this strange, Byzantine place everyone calls ‘society’.
